Desert Vista's Liringis helps Thunder to D-I boys golf lead

Desert Vista junior Matt Liringis carded a first-round 65 on Monday to lead the Thunder to the first-round lead of the Division I boys golf tournament at Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.

Liringis' total was 7-under-par, driving Desert Vista to an opening-round team score of 285 (3-under-par). Defending champ Brophy is second with 292. Desert Mountain (293), Boulder Creek (297) and Mesa Mountain View and Perry (298) round out the top five.

Individually behind Liringis is Mountain Pointe's Austin Fletcher and Desert Mountain's Ian Hagener. Both shot 3-under 69. Millennium's Austin Glendinning and Desert Vista's Randy Ross are next at 70. Boulder Creek's Alec Bone and Mesa Mountain View's Jake Gerard were the only others to shoot under par (71). Tee times for Tuesday's final round begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
