Sabino's Billy Comeaux didn't post an outrageously low score, but his steady play over two days was enough to earn him medalist honors Tuesday at the Division II boys golf tournament at Silverbell Golf Course in Tucson.

Speaking of steady and consistent, Thunderbird High shot one stroke better as a team Tuesday (285) enabling the Chiefs to take home team honors by seven shots over runner-up Canyon del Oro. Thunderbird totaled 571 (286-285) for its two rounds and CDO 578 (289-289). Notre Dame (593) was third, Sunnyslope (598) fourth and Salpointe (600) fifth. Canyon del Oro was the D-II state champs in 2011 and Thunderbird finished third.

Comeaux, who led after the fisrt round with a 69, shot 71 on Tuesday to finish at (140) even par. Comeaux, a junior, was two shots better than Seton Catholic's Austin Nelson, Notre Dame Prep's Austin Stadeli and Thunderbird's John Souza. Next in a group at 143 were Salpointe's Trent Terry, Thunderbird's Jack Snyder, Sunnyslope's Michael Guardiola, Canyon del Oro's Jaime Waltmire and Thunderbird's Jake Chanen. Three more tied at 144 -- Canyon del Oro's Frankie and Eric Wu and Sabino's Joe Berkson. Waltmire was the defending champ and was one shot back of Comeaux after Monday's opening round. Waltmire shot a 73 on Tuesday.
